Kirtan is the name for "Yogic-Sing-Along". KIRTAN at Apopka LOTUS YOGA CENTER……..THE MOMENTUM IS BUILDING! Like following a star in the sky, this devotional yogic sing-a-long is attracting participants from all over Central Florida! The power of many voices blending with love is a real phenomenon!
Kirtan is part of Nada Yoga, the Yoga of Sound. It is the central practice of Bhakti Yoga, which is the Yoga of Love and Devotion. It is an ancient practice, in which mantra (chanting) and music are used together to call out lovingly and enthusiastically the many faces of God. There is a constant repetition of the songs, which is called japa. Chanting opens the heart and makes love flow within us. As “The Word” echoes within us, this repeating mechanism activates the shakti energy for us, which can be accessed when awake or asleep. It has the power to purify and open our hearts. It can lead to deeper levels of understanding. Kirtan uses music as a vehicle of communication, but is not concerned with musical ability. What is important is singing from the heart. By singing Kirtan, you are able to withdraw from the mind chatter. You are travelling by the jet of emotions. Kirtan is based on intention and feeling and, therefore, allows for great creativity and freedom of expression. AND, it’s a lot of fun!
